international shipping
International customs can be confusing, and regulations have a habit of changing. We regularly review the information on this page and work with Zonos and our shipping partners to keep our checkout calculations as accurate and current as possible.
While we cannot control changes made by governments, customs authorities or carriers, we will always do our best to provide clear information and help you understand what to expect before placing your order.
See your destination below for a general guide to the duties, taxes and thresholds that may apply.
UNITED STATES
Import tax: No federal VAT or GST. Customs duty: variable.
Orders shipped to the United States are generally sent Delivered Duty Paid (DDP). The former US$800 duty-free threshold has been suspended, so orders of any value may attract customs duty.
There is no single US clothing-duty percentage. The rate depends on the garment type, fabric and country of manufacture. Applicable charges are calculated and collected at checkout.
CANADA
Sales tax: 5%–15%, depending on the province. Typical adult clothing duty: 18%.
Orders shipped to Canada may be sent Delivered Duty Paid (DDP) or Delivered Duty Unpaid (DDU/DAP), depending on the option selected at checkout.
Canada’s general duty-and-tax exemption for goods sent from Australia is CAN$20. Above this amount, tax and applicable duty are assessed on the full value. DDU/DAP deliveries may also attract carrier fees.
UNITED KINGDOM
VAT: 20%. Typical adult clothing duty: 12% on consignments over £135.
Orders shipped to the United Kingdom may be sent Delivered Duty Paid (DDP) or Delivered Duty Unpaid (DDU/DAP), depending on the option selected at checkout.
For consignments valued at £135 or less, VAT applies but customs duty is generally not charged. Above £135, VAT and customs duty may both apply.
GERMANY
Import VAT: 19%. Typical adult clothing duty: approximately 12% on consignments over €150.
Orders shipped to Germany must be sent Delivered Duty Paid (DDP) as of 25/08/26.
For consignments valued at €150 or less, import VAT applies together with the EU’s temporary €3 customs duty per distinct customs product category. Above €150, the normal EU customs tariff applies.
DENMARK
VAT: 25%. Typical adult clothing duty: approximately 12% on consignments over €150.
Orders shipped to Denmark must be sent Delivered Duty Paid (DDP) as of 25/08/26.
For consignments valued at €150 or less, VAT applies together with the EU’s temporary €3 customs duty per distinct customs product category. Above €150, the normal EU customs tariff applies.
IRELAND
VAT: 23%. Typical adult clothing duty: approximately 12% on consignments over €150.
Where a Delivered Duty Paid (DDP) option is shown at checkout, duties and taxes can be paid before delivery. Otherwise, the order will be Delivered Duty Unpaid (DDU/DAP) and charges will be collected by the carrier.
For consignments valued at €150 or less, VAT applies together with the EU’s temporary €3 customs duty per distinct customs product category. Above €150, the normal EU customs tariff applies.
New Zealand
GST: 15%. Clothing duty: generally not collected below NZ$1,000; some clothing may attract 5% or 10% duty above NZ$1,000.
For goods valued at NZ$1,000 or less, GST may be collected at checkout and New Zealand Customs generally does not collect duty or GST again at the border.
Orders over NZ$1,000 may attract customs duty, GST and border levies. Where DDP is unavailable, these charges and any carrier fees are payable before delivery.
EUROPEAN UNION
VAT: the destination country’s rate, generally 17%–27%. Typical adult clothing duty: approximately 12% on consignments over €150.
For consignments valued at €150 or less, local VAT applies together with the EU’s temporary €3 customs duty per distinct customs product category. This is not necessarily €3 for every garment, as identical items may be grouped under one category.
Above €150, the normal EU customs tariff applies, followed by local VAT. Where DDP is available, charges are collected at checkout; with DDU/DAP, they are collected before delivery.
OTHER
VAT, GST and customs duty: Varies by destination.
Orders shipped to countries not listed above may be sent Delivered Duty Paid (DDP) or Delivered Duty Unpaid (DDU/DAP), depending on the services available and the option selected at checkout.
Where DDP is available, applicable duties and taxes are calculated and collected at checkout. With DDU/DAP, the local customs authority or carrier will contact you for payment before delivery. Additional handling, brokerage or clearance fees may also apply.
It is the responsibility of the customer to familiarise themselves with their country's import regulations before placing an order. If you are unsure whether duties, taxes or customs fees may apply, we recommend contacting your local customs authority or reviewing your government's official customs information.
Import thresholds and customs rules may change. The threshold amounts shown are based on current legislation as of 30/08/26. If your parcel is held or assessed differently by your country’s customs, additional duties may apply.
FAQ
DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) means any applicable duties, taxes and import fees are calculated and collected during checkout. Your order is delivered without any additional customs charges on arrival.
DAP (Delivered at Place) means duties, taxes and import fees are not included at checkout. If your order is subject to customs charges, your local customs authority or delivery carrier will contact you to arrange payment before your parcel can be delivered. These charges vary by country and are the responsibility of the customer.
We are legally required to declare the accurate value and contents of every international shipment. We cannot mark commercial purchases as gifts or undervalue items to reduce or avoid customs duties and taxes.
Providing false customs declarations is illegal and may result in delays, additional charges, fines or the seizure of your parcel by customs authorities.
The most accurate and up-to-date information can be found on your country's official customs or government website. We recommend searching online for your country's customs authority (for example, "Canada Border Services Agency" or "French Customs") together with terms such as "import duties" or "import taxes".
While we do our best to keep our shipping information current, customs regulations can change at any time and are outside of our control.
Customs duties, taxes and import fees are imposed by your country's government, not by Meg by Design. We do not receive any portion of these charges. Whether fees apply depends on your country's import regulations and the shipping service used for your order.
Unfortunately no. Duties, taxes and import fees are determined by your country's customs authority and can vary depending on the value of your order, the products purchased and your local import regulations.
As we ship to customers all over the world, we're unable to calculate or provide advice on every country's customs charges. If you're unsure whether charges may apply, we recommend researching how your country applies charges or using a customs and tax calculator online to get a ballpark.
