OUR TIPS
Caring for Natural Fabrics
Natural fabrics are beautiful, breathable and made to age well, but their longevity depends on how they are treated. These recommendations are not intended to make caring for your clothes feel difficult. They are simply the gentlest ways to preserve their colour, structure and quality for many, many years.
NO TUMBLE DRYING
Many natural fabrics can survive occasional tumble drying, but repeated heat can cause fading, shrinkage and unnecessary fibre damage. Air drying is significantly gentler and can greatly extend their life.
DRY IN THE SHADE
Direct sunlight can gradually fade colour, particularly in black and richly dyed fabrics. Drying in the shade helps preserve the depth of the colour, the structure of the fabric and the shape of the garment.
SEPARATE COLOURS
Deeply dyed natural fabrics may release a little colour during their first few washes. This is a normal characteristic of the dyeing process. Washing separately in cold water helps protect both the garment and the rest of your washing.
IRON WITH CARE
Always use a temperature appropriate for the fabric. Linen and cotton generally respond well to steam or a warmer iron, while silk and wool require lower temperatures to avoid burning or shrinking the fabrics.
EXTEND THE LIFE
REPAIR RATHER THAN REPLACE
Small signs of wear do not need to mean the end of a garment. Loose buttons, small tears and worn seams can often be repaired easily, allowing a much-loved piece to remain in your wardrobe for years longer. We love placing patches or embroidery over worn spots.
