Caring for Your Cotton Organdy


Hand Washing: The delicate nature of cotton organdy makes hand washing the preferred method for cleaning. Fill a basin with tepid water and add a mild liquid detergent. Gently agitate the water and submerge your organdy item. Gently swish it around for a few minutes. Avoid scrubbing or wringing, as this can damage the fabric's fibers. Rinse thoroughly with cold water.

Drying: After washing, we recommend hanging your organdy pieces to dry in the shade. Excess ringing, machine cycles and tumble drying can reduce the stiffness of the fabric, which is what we love most about organdy. By hanging the garment to dry, it will create beautiful drapes and lasting texture without the need for ironing or steaming. 

Storage: We recommend hanging organdy garments to keep the beautiful texture and lessen creases. If you do have your organdy pieces folded away, a quick steam or light mist of water and hanging to dry will remove any unintentional creasing. 

Maintenance: If your organdy pieces are slowly losing their stiffness, you can use any fabric starch to bring back the crispiness.

Organdy can be crunched, scrunched and manipulated to have more texture and volume if that is the desired effect.
